The last steam train ran on British Rail on this day in 1968. British Movietone reported on this end of an era, and those working to preserve its history.

This summer sees the end of steam trains on British Rail. But the Steam Age is still preserved, notably in the many Traction Engine Rallies and Steam Fairs which have become such a popular summer entertainment. Movietone records an impression of these giants from the past - and contrasts them with their successors - Internal Combustion. From steam power to Power Boats.
