A "massive combined strike" on Ukraine's energy infrastructure was carried out overnight by Russia, President Zelensky has said.

At least seven people have been killed and many were injured - including children - following the strikes on Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lviv and Odesa regions.

Ukraine’s largest private energy company says the attacks caused "significant damage" to thermal energy plants, with emergency blackouts in three regions.

PUTINS KRIEG: Eskalation! "Machtdemonstration!" Russen setzen erstmals Interkontinentalrakete ein!

Russland hat im Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine nach Angaben aus Kiew erstmals eine Interkontinentalrakete eingesetzt und damit offenbar auf Angriffe gegen eigene Gebiete reagiert. Ziel sei die zentralukrainische Stadt Dnipro gewesen, meldete das ukrainische Medienportal Ukrainska Pravda unter Berufung auf anonyme Quellen am Donnerstag. Es habe sich um eine Rakete des Typs RS-26 Rubezh gehandelt. Die US-Rüstungskontroll-Organisation Arms Control Association gibt die Reichweite der RS-26 mit 5.800 Kilometern an.

Bereits zuvor hatte die ukrainische Luftwaffe erklärt, Russland habe eine Interkontinentalrakete auf Dnipro abgefeuert, ohne jedoch den Raketentyp zu benennen. Die Rakete sei von der südlichen Region Astrachan am Kaspischen Meer aus gestartet worden. Weiter hieß es, die ukrainische Luftabwehr habe sechs russische Marschflugkörper vom Typ Ch-101 abgeschossen.

Der russische Angriff erfolgte, nachdem die Ukraine in den vergangenen Tagen erstmals mit US-amerikanischen und britischen Raketen Ziele in Russland attackiert hatte. Ziel des russischen Angriffs seien unter anderem Unternehmen und kritische Infrastruktur in der Region Dnipro gewesen, hieß es weiter. In Dnipro wurde den örtlichen Behörden zufolge ein Industrieunternehmen beschädigt. Zudem seien zwei Brände in der Stadt ausgebrochen.

Die Regierung in Moskau hat die US-Erlaubnis für die Ukraine zum Einsatz westlicher Waffen mit größerer Reichweite gegen Ziele auf russischem Territorium als Eskalation bezeichnet. Präsident Wladimir Putin ordnete eine Änderung der Nuklear-Doktrin an, um die Schwelle für den Einsatz der Waffen zu senken.

UKRAINE-KRIEG: Putin dreht auf - Derbe Drohung mit globalen Konflikt | WELT News

Der Ukraine-Konflikt spitzt sich weiter zu. Russlands Präsident Wladimir Putin droht unverhohlen mit einer Eskalation und dem möglichen Einsatz von Atomwaffen. In einer Ansprache bezeichnete er den Krieg in der Ukraine als einen vom Westen provozierten Konflikt mit globaler Dimension. Zudem kündigte er an, künftig militärische Einrichtungen in Ländern angreifen zu können, die die Ukraine mit weitreichenden Waffen beliefern.

Aktuell testete Russland eine neue experimentelle Mittelstreckenrakete, die auch mit nuklearen Sprengköpfen bestückt werden könnte. Diese wurde bei einem Angriff auf Dnipro eingesetzt. Moskau begründet solche Maßnahmen als Reaktion auf Angriffe mit westlichen Raketen wie den US-amerikanischen ATACMS und britischen Storm-Shadow-Marschflugkörpern, die von der Ukraine auf russisches Territorium abgefeuert wurden.

In den USA wird eine Anpassung der Atomwaffendoktrin erwogen, während die Vereinten Nationen die Eskalation mit Besorgnis verfolgen. Experten wie Professor Carlo Masala gehen jedoch davon aus, dass Putin zumindest bis zur möglichen Wiederwahl Donald Trumps zurückhaltend bleibt, um Verhandlungen nicht zu gefährden. Dennoch sorgt die neue russische Atomdoktrin, die die Schwelle für Nuklearwaffeneinsätze senkt, international für Alarmstimmung.

In Kiew herrscht erhöhte Wachsamkeit, die Parlamentsarbeit wurde aus Sicherheitsgründen ausgesetzt. Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj fordert die internationale Gemeinschaft zu entschlossener Reaktion auf die "kranken Ambitionen" Russlands auf.

Die militärische Lage bleibt angespannt. Russland intensiviert seine Angriffe, um bis Januar strategische Geländegewinne zu sichern. Die internationale Gemeinschaft steht vor der Herausforderung, weitere Eskalationen zu verhindern und gleichzeitig die Ukraine zu unterstützen.
