News Update: Dramatic increase in shootings in Portland; OSAA moves fall sports to next March
While Sorare has over 5 million registered users, it is looking to fuel further growth by adding support for the U.S. dollar, euro and British pound.
Sorare users no longer have to use ether to buy the the Web3 fantasy-sports platform's digital trading cards, eliminating "one of the main barriers to entry."
However, the trading cards are still NFTs and are still transacted on the blockchain.
Web3 fantasy-sports company Sorare now supports fiat payments for its digital trading cards, removing the requirement for users to pay in ether (ETH) and eliminating what the company called "one of the main barriers to entry."
Sorare is a blockchain-based game that allows users, called managers, to buy and trade non-fungible tokens (NFTs) representing elite sports players to build teams that they enter into competitions. The platform is licensed by some of the world's biggest sports leagues, including Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA) and soccer's Premier League, La Liga and the Bundesliga.
While Sorare has over 5 million registered managers, it may now see the association with crypto as a hindrance to further growth and has introduced support for the U.S. dollar, the euro and the British pound. The move follows that of fellow NFT-related sports game NBA Top Shot, which accepts U.S. dollars.
As well as trying to spur user growth, the platforms may be trying to water down their association with cryptocurrency owing to lingering negative connotations due to events of the last year or so, such as the crypto market's collapse and crypto exchange FTX's dramatic implosion in November.
Removing the obligation to pay in ETH on the platform "eliminates one of the main barriers to entry and makes it easier than ever for existing and new Managers to experience its fantasy sports game and marketplace," Sorare said in an emailed announcement on Monday.
An uptick in the use of Sorare may nevertheless have a positive effect on the broader adoption of digital assets and decentralized technology because the trading cards are still NFTs and the transactions are still recorded on the blockchain.

The business of youth sports is exploding at an unimaginable rate. But it’s not just financial sacrifices families are making to help their young athletes reach the next level. And industry experts warn that’s creating an uneven playing field for some kids.
One of the most extreme examples of youth sports spiraling out of control came in April during a 10 and under baseball game in Abilene, Texas, when a little league baseball coach became unhinged after he’s thrown out of the game for arguing balls and strikes, and assaults the umpire shoving him to the ground.
In the now-viral video of the incident, you can see the 10-year-old players standing in stunned silence as the umpire lays motionless on the field. The coach, whose name was not released by the league, was permanently banned by tournament organizers.
Jon Solomon, editorial director for Aspen Institute’s Sports and Society Program, believes in today’s world of youth sports the business of winning and losing has surpassed character development and camaraderie.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Solomon said. “A lot of it is the chase for the college athletic scholarship.”
Driven by the runaway travel sports industry, in which families pay thousands of dollars a year in team fees and travel costs to compete in national tournaments and events, youth sports have become an estimated 19.2 billion dollar a year business in the United States according to the research firm “Research and Markets,” surpassing the 15 billion dollar a year NFL industry and outpacing the 18-billion-dollar yearly operating budget for 2022 of Washington, DC Government.
By 2026, youth sports revenues are estimated to reach an unfathomable $77.6 billion dollars a year.
“So, the travel sports world has, in many ways hurt the local rec leagues quite a bit,” Solomon said. “It has taken away a lot of coaches, it's taken away a lot of volunteers to run leagues. It's taken away the finances, the money, some of the facility space as well, just to be able to play at those leaks. Sometimes they're rented by the travel sports teams. So, a lot of families are getting left behind.”

#1 Knowing What You Want - [How To Increase Motivation In Sport] - Motivation is thought to be a combination of many things… the drive within us to achieve our aims… the outside factors which affect it…and the aspiration to prove ‘something’ to ourselves.
With this in mind, motivation is considered and divided into two forms, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation.
What is Intrinsic motivation?
This is motivation considered to come within [‘in’trinsic]… the desire to perform and succeed and…
• The desire to overcome the problem or task
• Develop of skills and habits to overcome that problem
• Rehearsal of successful habits until they are perfect
• A feeling of pride and enjoyment in performing the skill
• Repeated goal setting in order to progress and maintain motivation
Extrinsic motivation
Extrinsic motivation comes from a source outside of the performer [‘ex’trinsic]. These are things, which can encourage the athlete to perform and fall into two groups:
Tangible rewards: Physical rewards such as medals and money.
Intangible rewards: Praise, recognition and achievements.
Motivation, Arousal and Performance
Motivation is related to the intensity and direction of behaviour. That is, the level of arousal and the way in which we behave affect our motivation and hence performance. There are currently two theories which try to explain this link:
Hull's Drive Theory:
This demonstrates a linear relationship between performance and arousal. This means at low levels of arousal, performance is low and performance increases in line with an increase in arousal.
Drive theory
This theory also explains that novices to the sport often do not perform well under pressure and their skill level decreases due to poor habits and techniques. Habits are described as the performance, which is dominant within each person. Experienced athletes tend to perform better under pressure due to their superior skills and the use of stress management techniques.
Performance = habit x drive (arousal)
Inverted U Law:
This law states that arousal improves performance up to an optimal point. Past this point, performance begins to decrease.
Inverted U theory:
There are three rules, which surround this theory
Activity: Some sports are better performed at low arousal, mainly those which require small, precision movements and control, e.g. shooting
Skill level: Beginners to a sport require all of their attention to be focused on the task in hand and so do not cope as well with over-arousal. Highly skilled individuals have the skill well practiced and so do not require such high levels of concentration meaning they can deal better with the arousal level.
Personality: Extroverts perform better in high-pressure, high arousal situations. Introverts tend to do better in a state of low arousal. This is thought to be connected to part of the brain called the RAS or reticular activating system. Introverts have a highly stimulated RAS and so avoid stressful situations, whereas extroverts need high arousal situations to stimulate the RAS.
The RAS is something that you’ll hear me talking a lot about…

A good lifestyle involves daily scheduling that enhances one’s mental, emotional, and physical health. It’s not entirely about avoiding illnesses; instead, it’s about pursuing a way of living that directs one towards a healthy mind and body in greater longevity.
*The good thing about lifestyle is that it’s in your hands; thus, you can change it, tweak it, or completely reverse it according to your suitability. One simply needs to be conscious of the self to remain physically and mentally healthy.
* Sports involves stretching, running, and relaxing, everything that helps keep the blood pressure in control. Blood pressure causes many illnesses, and the best preventive way is to do physical exercise daily.
*Sports are also famous for improving teamwork capabilities in people. If someone finds it hard to work in a group, playing sports can help them learn how to manage and multitask within a team effectively.
