Getting a Steam Deck just got a lot easier, Hideo Kojima is teasing his next project again, and Forza Horizon 5 is getting its biggest update yet.

Nothing feels quite like good news on a Friday! For those of you still looking to order a Steam Deck, you’re in luck because you no longer have to make a reservation or wait in a virtual line to buy one. Instead, you can buy it on demand--you know, the way you purchase everything else in your life… Well, except a PS5. Valve has also unveiled the device's promised docking station, which costs $89 and ships in 1-2 weeks. This premium accessory includes not only HDMI, Displayport, and 3 USB 3.1 connectors, but also an Ethernet port.

In a tweet announcing the Deck’s new availability, Valve also noted a few nice features that were added in a recent update. These include expanded docking station options, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean keyboards, better trackpad typing, and improved stability in offline mode. It also includes several advanced control commands, including remapping certain commands when holding a button, as well as nested menus for more complicated PC games.

But even though the wait for more Steam Deck is over, the wait for Hideo Kojima’s next game is still going. However it seems you won’t have to wait much longer, as his studio Kojima Productions begins to pull the curtain back on its next project, revealing that the actress Elle Fanning will appear in it. Kojima revealed this as part of PAX Australia, which is going on now in Melbourne.

The first teaser for the mysterious game was revealed during the Tokyo Game Show last month. Additional teasers are coming, and if they follow tradition, a major game event might again be the host. If that's the case, the next big gaming event this year is Gamescom Asia at the end of October. After that, Kojima's pal Geoff Keighley is hosting The Game Awards in December.

The REAL Steam Deck Graphics Boost is Here…

The Steam Deck is quite possibly one of the best devices to play older games on. Almost every game that was released in 2016 and before will run really well, and with the Deck being a PC, we can play games that even go back to the early 1990s and before, thanks to emulators. While there is no issue with performance for these older titles, it is always nice to see any improvement that could help performance. Yesterday, there was a new change to DXVK, made by Valve's own Joshua Ashton, that will make Direct3D 8/Direct X 8.0 games perform better overall.

Per yesterday's Merge on Github, and reported on Phoronix, The D8VK project has now been merged into DXVK, meaning many Direct3D 8 games, like Grand Theft Auto 3, F.E.A.R., and Max Payne 1 and 2, should have some nice performance boosts. There are also some games that weren't released on Steam that do have PC builds, like Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, that will also benefit from this!

For some reference, DXVK is an essential part of the Proton compatibility layer that Valve uses to get Windows games to run on the Steam Deck. DXVK specifically is a Vulkan-based translation layer that translates Direct3D 9, 10, and 11 into a Vulkan-readable format, which allows the game to run on Linux. D8VK is essentially the Direct3D 8 version of this kind of layer, and with it being implemented, we should now be able to more easily translate these older games, too.

Logitech is unveiling a new gaming handheld, a September Nintendo Direct is happening, and confusion over the new Assassin’s Creed. All this and more on today’s GameSpot News.

Logitech is unveiling its own gaming device on September 21. In the wake of Valve’s successful handheld, Steam Deck, the PC peripheral manufacturer is attempting its own portable gaming console, although it will be significantly different compared to what is available on the market already.

The product, which Logitech is partnering with gaming giant Tencent on, will have a focus on streaming games. The company revealed that it is working with Microsoft and Nvidia to make sure that their services, Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now respectively, work smoothly on the device.

It seems, however, that the device won’t solely be for streaming games. Images of the device that leaked in August showed a ‘Google Play’ front and center on the console’s homescreen, which if indicative of the final OS that will ship with the device, suggests that the hardware’s processor will be beefy enough to run native Android games as well.

A tease for the September 21 event suggests that the device will have a yellow button adorned with the Logitech logo, identical to the one in the leaks, possibly confirming the validity of those images.

From one handheld to another, a Nintendo Direct is happening tomorrow, September 13, the company not breaking its streak of having a September Direct every year since 2016. It will include "roughly 40 minutes" of new information, focusing on games coming to Nintendo Switch this winter.

Multiple games are rumored to be part of the presentation, including two ports of The Legend of Zelda--Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD--as well as a remaster of the original Metroid Prime. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which are scheduled to release on November 18, should feature during the event as well. Other than Metroid Prime 4 and the Breath of the Wild sequel, Nintendo’s first party slate of officially announced games after Scarlet and Violet is completely unknown.

Another showcase of games that happened over the weekend was Ubisoft Forward, which included a presentation on Assassin’s Creed celebrating its 15th anniversary. A smaller, AC1 inspired title called Mirage will release early next year, set in Baghdad and featuring a young Basim, a side character in 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Two additional games for console and PC, similar in scope to the recent, larger entries, were also announced; Project Red will allow players to finally climb around feudal Japan as a shinobi, and the spooky Project Hexe which is rumored to be set during the Holy Roman Empire and focus on the witch trials of that period. Red and Hexe will kick of Ubisoft’s hub for Assassin’s Creed, Infinity, which Ubisoft has confirmed will feature multiplayer elements in the future.

Dolphin, a piece of software used for emulating GameCube and Wii games, is coming to Steam this year.
