Tyla - To Last (Live). An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
There’s a new genre coming out of South Africa, and Tyla is one of its most promising young talents. “Amapiano, it’s the sound right now,” she explained to us after gliding through her DSCVR performances, where she put the emerging blend of house, R&B, and African dance genres such as Kwaito in the spotlight. In Zulu dialects, Amapiano means “the pianos,” a reference to the lounge keys usually weaved into its dembow and four-to-the-floor rhythms. Tyla herself is a master of taking its glossiest elements and imbuing them with the sensuality of American R&B. “Getting Late,” her breakout debut, was all about making the most of a night’s final hours. Considering she designs her songs in the shower, it makes sense that a certain steaminess and nonchalance runs through recent bops “Been Thinking” and “Girl Next Door.” But like a rose garden, there’s thorns nestled between those Tyla’s delicate sonic petals and romantic aromas. “My first love was not my first heartbreak,” the Aaliyah and Rihanna disciple whispers in “To Last,” which she performed for us on DSCVR. Ouch. Clearly, she’s learned how to pack punches from her pop-R&B heroes. “Water” is a particularly fetching track. “It’s kind of a naughty song,” she confessed, before adding, “It’s a summer song.” What else is there to say: dive in, but don’t expect to cool off.

Introducing Towa Bird | Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2025
Towa Bird knows that angst manifests in many forms. From the romantic, to the economic, to the existential, the rising indie rocker with Filipino and English roots speaks to all forms of anxieties with a precision that only comes with personal experience and a sharp pen. It’s all there on her debut album, the cheekily titled ‘American Hero,’ which Rolling Stone recently named one of the 100 best from 2024. Its tracks range in areas of concern. “Sorry Sorry” sticks out the stiff arm to an unfortunate friend who wants to be more than that; the jangly “B.I.L.L.S.” rails at paying rent and wider pitfalls of capitalism. Fan-fave “Drain Me!,” meanwhile, lets the endorphins flow a bit. Longtime Towa fans know that the guitar is her first musical ally, having been inspired by the Kinks and Jimi Hendrix as a kid. Raised in Hong Kong, Towa would cut her teeth playing street festivals and dive bars around the massive city. Eventually she started posting covers to YouTube, which extended her reach more than a bit. “Having guitar-centered music… it’s always been my focus,” she explained to us. Tyler, The Creator and Willow Smith have given Towa daps for her celebration of queer experiences and reimagination of what energetic rock music can look like in the LGBTQ+ space. A flurry of butterflies visited our DSCVR stage in Brooklyn, NY. They all belonged to Colombian rising star Ela Taubert, who moved through her performance as flawlessly as the winged creatures fly. The world got to know Gracie Abrams this year. More importantly, she got to know herself quite a bit better too. Introducing KATSEYE | Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2025
In the year of the girl group comeback, KATSEYE stands out from the pack as the global crew. There’s Daniela, Lara, and Megan from the States. There’s Swiss singer Manon repping Europe, Sophia waving the flag for the Philippines and Yoonchae from the pop group Mecca of the past decade, South Korea. It’s a novel concept, developed via a tried and true method - a talent contest. The six gals were the finalists of The Debut: The Dream Academy. Afterwords, the real work started. “We were training 10 to 12 hours a day,” recalls Lara. They also moved in together. “We became sisters,” says Manon. Months of dance training and singing sessions culminated in the aptly titled “Debut.” A swaggering bassline matches the pop confection’s main announcement: KATSEYE is the result of detailed planning, but the energy is all natural. “We ain’t flexing, babe we do what we do.” Perhaps more impressive is second single, “Touch.” Having arrived in July, it boasts more than 170 million Spotify streams and 60 million-plus views for the whirlwind video. Those are phenomenal numbers. So much so that we had to jump in on the rapidly-ascending ground floor. That fans are going to go crazy for these performances might be the easiest prediction we'll make this year. Sitting together on the DSCVR stage, this constellation of six young stars giggled in anticipation about 2025 plans. A couple even got goosebumps, a sensation that many viewers will certainly share.
