Essentiellement conçu par le développeur chilien Bruno Karelovic au sein de son studio Estudios Kremlinois, sous l’édition de RockGame, Urbek City Builder est – comme son nom l’indique – un simulateur de construction et de gestion de ville qui est sorti l’an passé sur PC via Steam et l’Epic Games Store. Après un détour par la Xbox One et la Xbox Series X|S au mois d’avril dernier, le jeu est désormais disponible sur l’eShop de la Nintendo Switch depuis le 4 mai 2023 en occident (et depuis le 11 mai au Japon).

Outre ses graphismes voxelisés plutôt sympathiques, le titre se caractérise surtout par l’absence d’un quelconque système monétaire, remplacé ici par la gestion de plus d’une trentaine de ressources différentes, heureusement pas toutes accessibles dès le départ. Après avoir choisi son biome et réglé certains paramètres de la carte (influant sur la difficulté globale), on va ainsi se lancer dans la création de la ville de ses rêves en prenant en compte les besoins de chaque structure, le type de ressources qu’elle consomme ou produit, mais également la manière dont elle est susceptible d’évoluer en fonction de divers facteurs environnementaux. L’occasion de découvrir une approche intelligente et organique de l’urbanisme qui s’avère étonnamment addictive, même lorsqu’on n’a pas vraiment d’inclinaison pour le genre.

Si le tutoriel nous présente d’ailleurs de manière plutôt efficace et exhaustive les nombreuses possibilités à notre disposition, force est de reconnaitre qu’à force suivre ses indications, on finit par perdre un peu de fil de ce qu’on souhaitait faire à l’origine. Ce fut notamment le cas lors de notre première session de jeu que nous avons interrompue au bout d’une heure et quart afin de repartir sur de meilleures bases et que nous vous proposons de découvrir dans notre vidéo de gameplay du jour. On ne saurait donc trop vous conseiller aux personnes intéréssées de choisir une carte assez facile pour le tutoriel (avec une grande superficie, sans désert ni zone enneigée), puis de relancer ensuite une partie dédiée à la poursuite de leurs propres objectifs. Dans tous les cas, et malgré sa relative complexité, Urbek City Builder vaut vraiment le coup d’œil.
