Tyla - To Last (Live). An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.

There’s a new genre coming out of South Africa, and Tyla is one of its most promising young talents. “Amapiano, it’s the sound right now,” she explained to us after gliding through her DSCVR performances, where she put the emerging blend of house, R&B, and African dance genres such as Kwaito in the spotlight. In Zulu dialects, Amapiano means “the pianos,” a reference to the lounge keys usually weaved into its dembow and four-to-the-floor rhythms. Tyla herself is a master of taking its glossiest elements and imbuing them with the sensuality of American R&B. “Getting Late,” her breakout debut, was all about making the most of a night’s final hours. Considering she designs her songs in the shower, it makes sense that a certain steaminess and nonchalance runs through recent bops “Been Thinking” and “Girl Next Door.” But like a rose garden, there’s thorns nestled between those Tyla’s delicate sonic petals and romantic aromas. “My first love was not my first heartbreak,” the Aaliyah and Rihanna disciple whispers in “To Last,” which she performed for us on DSCVR. Ouch. Clearly, she’s learned how to pack punches from her pop-R&B heroes. “Water” is a particularly fetching track. “It’s kind of a naughty song,” she confessed, before adding, “It’s a summer song.” What else is there to say: dive in, but don’t expect to cool off.

Introducing KATSEYE | Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2025

In the year of the girl group comeback, KATSEYE stands out from the pack as the global crew. There’s Daniela, Lara, and Megan from the States. There’s Swiss singer Manon repping Europe, Sophia waving the flag for the Philippines and Yoonchae from the pop group Mecca of the past decade, South Korea. It’s a novel concept, developed via a tried and true method - a talent contest. The six gals were the finalists of The Debut: The Dream Academy. Afterwords, the real work started. “We were training 10 to 12 hours a day,” recalls Lara. They also moved in together. “We became sisters,” says Manon. Months of dance training and singing sessions culminated in the aptly titled “Debut.” A swaggering bassline matches the pop confection’s main announcement: KATSEYE is the result of detailed planning, but the energy is all natural. “We ain’t flexing, babe we do what we do.” Perhaps more impressive is second single, “Touch.” Having arrived in July, it boasts more than 170 million Spotify streams and 60 million-plus views for the whirlwind video. Those are phenomenal numbers. So much so that we had to jump in on the rapidly-ascending ground floor. That fans are going to go crazy for these performances might be the easiest prediction we'll make this year. Sitting together on the DSCVR stage, this constellation of six young stars giggled in anticipation about 2025 plans. A couple even got goosebumps, a sensation that many viewers will certainly share.

Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter, and TaTa are three rap Power Rangers who have come together like an unholy Megazord to create 41. Hailing from various pockets of the boroughs, each spitter has a distinct color: Kyle growls threats to opps and aims unsweet nothings to potential one nighters, Jenn coolly throws vicious jabs, Tata swings through to sprinkle in the manic anxiety that comes with street life survival. Now that our Brooklyn ctrl studio has become a hub for capturing the raw energy of NYC’s drill stars, it was a proper host for a one year anniversary celebration of 41's “Bent.” It’s up to you to decide if its 100+ million streams are more or less important than the cultural and physical impact it made across the Big Apple in the last 365 days. Subwoofers certainly got a good work out. Impressively, the crew behind the infamous "Notti Bop" took a considered approach to this performance. Fun was had, for sure, but more importantly they seemed well aware of an opportunity to cement their impression on the ruthless scene they inhabit - one so ephemeral that only a superhero could endure.

There’s a new genre coming out of South Africa, and Tyla is one of its most promising young talents. “Amapiano, it’s the sound right now,” she explained to us after gliding through her DSCVR performances, where she put the emerging blend of house, R&B, and African dance genres such as Kwaito in the spotlight. In Zulu dialects, Amapiano means “the pianos,” a reference to the lounge keys usually weaved into its skipping four-to-the-floor rhythms. Tyla herself is a master of taking its glossiest elements and imbuing them with the sensuality of American R&B. “Getting Late,” her breakout debut, was all about making the most of a night’s final hours. Considering she designs her songs in the shower, it makes sense that a certain steaminess and nonchalance runs through recent bops “Been Thinking” and “Girl Next Door.” But like a rose garden, there’s thorns nestled between those Tyla’s delicate sonic petals and romantic aromas. “My first love was not my first heartbreak,” the Aaliyah and Rihanna disciple whispers in “To Last.” Ouch. Clearly, she’s learned how to pack punches from her pop-R&B heroes. “Water” is a particularly fetching track. “It’s kind of a naughty song,” she confessed, before adding, “It’s a summer song.” What else is there to say: dive in, but don’t expect to cool off.
