Two days ago, someone sent me an email asking me to check out this game on Steam called "Banana". Despite its complete obscurity, it somehow has hundreds of thousands of players online at all times, making it rank consistently in the top 5 most played games on #Steam. This seemed right up my alley, and I knew there had to be something suspicious going on.

Turns out, I was right, and Banana might just be one of the most shameless cash-grab schemes of the year.

The White Steam Deck

Nearly three years to the day after teasing the world with a white version of the Steam Deck, Valve has finally decided to release the normally black handheld gaming PC in that color too. The limited-edition white model is going on sale for $679 on November 18th at 3PM PT / 6PM ET, everywhere the handheld is sold, including Australia and the various regions of Asia served by Komodo.

It’s no different on the inside than a normal model, says Valve:

Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White has all the same specs as the Steam Deck OLED 1TB model, but in white and grey. It also comes with an exclusive white carrying case and white microfiber cleaning cloth.

Since the 1TB OLED normally costs $649, you’re effectively paying $30 for the color. Valve says it’s allocated stock proportionally across each region, but once it’s sold out, it won’t be making any more.

In a recent interview to AUTOMATON, Valve's Steam Deck designer Lawrence Yang and programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed that the company knows about the lack of support and is "monitoring the trend of games requiring kernel-level access" at the moment. Moreover, Valve has partnered with Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye in the past "to make it easy for developers to enable support for Steam Deck."

"We have been monitoring the trend of games requiring kernel-level access for their anti-cheat technologies and not supporting Steam Deck as a result. We are extremely aware of the critical need for countermeasures against cheating in online games, but are also considering options carefully. Some of the approaches popular now in the industry might present problematic trade-offs for the end-user in the longer term," Griffais said.

Xbox Handheld is a Few Years Out - Buy a Deck

No dates have been confirmed. However, Spencer, in an interview with Bloomberg, admits the “expectation is that we would do something” but any kind of physical device is “a few years out” and the team is working on improving the Xbox app to improve functionality on existing handhelds. An easy tutorial on how to make a grid based building system in Unity. You don't need to write a custom grid! The system works with standard Unity tilemaps. It implements grid snapping and placement checking. As an example, I used an isometric grid but it will work for any 2d grid.

Surviving Mars is a forthcoming city builder game from Paradox and Haememont games which is scheduled for release in Mid March. The game takes the city planning and building concept and applies it to early robotic pioneers through first colonists, expansion and stirs in some unnatural anomalies to make the late game interesting.
I was fortunate enough to get an early look at this last week and It's looking good right now. Thanks to Paradox for hosting me.

OpenTTD is a business simulation game in which players try to earn money via transporting passengers and freight by road, rail, water and air. It is an open-source remake and expansion of the 1995 Chris Sawyer video game Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

OpenTTD duplicates most features of Transport Tycoon Deluxe and has many additions, including a range of map sizes, support for many languages, custom (user-made) artificial intelligence (AI), downloadable customisations, ports for several widely used operating systems, and a more user-friendly interface. OpenTTD also supports local area network (LAN) and Internet multiplayer, co-operative and competitive, for up to 255 players.

OpenTTD is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.0 and is under ongoing development. According to a study of the 61,154 open-source projects on SourceForge in the period between 1999 and 2005, OpenTTD ranked 8th most active open-source project to receive patches and contributions. In 2003 or 2004, development moved to their own server. Since 2018, the project uses GitHub for its source repository and bug tracker.
