The latest PCSX2 update gives the PS2 emulator an overhaul, including a shiny new interface and native Dualshock 4 and Dualsense controller support. While the open-source solution is one of the best ways to play PlayStation 2 games on your gaming PC, the latest version switches out its minimalist UI with a new GUI framework Qt-based front end.
The latest version of the PS2 emulator arms the PCSX2 with a grid menu that supports library box art and a more traditional list-style interface. If you’ve used the DuckStation PS1 emulator, you’ll likely recognise PCSX2’s new look, as both options feature a similar aesthetic and layout.
Of course, the new PCSX2 update isn’t all style, as the package includes plenty of settings substance. For starters, you can now tweak emulator options like PC controller mapping per game, enabling you to maximise playability without upsetting your entire library. Speaking of gamepads, the software now supports modern Sony pads, which negates the need for additional shenanigans when using a Dualshock 4 or PS5 Dualsense.

STEAM BOX OFFICIALLY STEAM MACHINES (Escapist News Now)
On their website Valve stated, "We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS."
"We have designed a high-performance prototype that's optimized for gaming, for the living, and for Steam. Of course, it's also completely upgradable and open." Valve will ship out 300 machines to Steam users for testing purposes.
Want to be one of the lucky 300? Well you'll have to go on the Eligibility Quest which includes signing up for the hardware beta, making at least 10 Steam friends, and play a game using a gamepad in Big Picture mode.
The list will be locked on October 25th so if you want a chance to participate you have to sign up before then over at store.steampowered.com. The prototypes will ship out this year, with machines available for purchase sometime next year. Valve stressed that if you like your current PC rig, then no worries, you'll still be able to get SteamOS for it. But there will be a variety of sizes, prices, and other options available for the new Steam Machines next year.

Steam Deck Framerates just got BOOSTED - But is it good enough?

AMD FSR 3.1, which can offer both FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling and Frame Generation, can take a passable game on Valve’s portable and considerably boost performance. The reason I highlighted Spider-Man: Remastered earlier is because I’ve seen examples of players pushing this game into its Very High graphical settings with FSR 3.1 enabled, and still achieving smoothly playable frame rates in the 60-70fps range, with just occasional drops down to the 40s.
There is always the risk that enabling these two technologies will create input lag or visual artifacts. However, my early testing on Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West suggests that the performance boost is considerable, and the graphical downsides are remarkably small.
In fact, I would put it to Valve that it may even be worth reassessing Horizon Forbidden West and its Steam Deck rating. It’s currently marked as Unsupported due to its demanding graphics, but if Nixess were to create a Steam Deck graphical preset, with AMD FSR 3.1 enabled, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be marked as ‘Playable’ at least.
More importantly, AMD FSR 3.1 can have a huge impact in games outside of the five PlayStation titles to which it was recently added. As the Steam Deck hardware starts to show its age, and more powerful handhelds flood the market, FSR 3.1 offers a genuine way to ensure the Deck still performs in new releases, and it may even take off the pressure when it comes to releasing the highly anticipated Steam Deck 2.

A new Proton GE update was released yesterday, and if you have been experiencing an issue with Elden Ring not allowing multiplayer if you don't own the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, you might be very happy with this update. The new Proton GE 9-10 version does have some component updates and the removal of d8vk build options, but the biggest part of this update comes from a protonfix that allows EAC for Elden Ring to function correctly if you don't have the new expansion. The FIDE World Championship 2024 match is the first in 138 years to feature two contestants from Asia, the reigning World Champion, China’s Ding Liren and challenger Dommaraju Gukesh from India competing for the title and a prize fund of US$2.5 million.
The schedule of the World Championship match takes place over 3 weeks, with 14 match days and 4 rest days planned. All games start at 17:00 local time (2.30 p.m. IST) and there are rest days after Games 3, 6, 9 and 12. The first player to reach 7.5 points will be the winner; in the case of a tie after 14 games, tiebreaks will be played the next day to decide the winner.
