Now we’re waiting for ‘Austin,’ Posty’s latest and perhaps most revealing work to date (his real name is Austin Richard Post). It arrives July 28, and the singer has told fans that it’s “some of the most challenging and rewarding music for me, a least – trying to really push myself and really do some cool stuff.” To celebrate the arrival of his fifth full album, we united with Mr. Malone in SoCal last month. The results are stellar, with Post being deeply candid and deeply expressive for the cameras. With a fetching pop perspective, he’s leveling up once again, no doubt. Bryant Barnes delivers scorching emotions with icy ease. His debut project, ‘VANITY,’ is like an Arctic glacier: beautifully complex, ever-changing, and a little bit dangerous. Born in Texas, young Bryant spent his childhood moving between states. The only constant was music, starting with classical piano lessons at the age of six. So the Chief Keef acolyte turned on the burners, and cooked up “Kitchen Stove.” Over a squeaky mattress sample, Poz coolly puts self-progress atop the to-do list. “I done it with gang/And I done it alone.” The debut wasn’t a hit, it was a home run. And like an All-Star slugger, he went back-to-back when, in April 2024, his gloomy and grimey follow-up “Malicious Intentions” arrived. By the end of brat summer, he had made history as the only British rapper to have his first two singles chart simultaneously in the UK. Icons of the game Dave and Stormzy, plus the comedian Druski, followed with cosigns. Acting isn’t the only thing that Olivia Rodrigo is great at. When the ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ star dropped her “drivers license” video back at the start of the year, the overwhelming response made it clear that she had a way of deeply communicating with listeners not only as an actor, but as an artist. Views-wise, it crossed the 200-million mark in just four months. Pretty impressive for someone who had never put out an album on her own. Rodrigo, who proved “drivers license” was no fluke when “deja vu” also hit a home run upon release last month, is fixing that. Her ‘Sour’ debut arrives on May 21, and by the time it gets here, she will have performed at both the BRIT Awards and Saturday Night Live. Billboard reports that the 18-year-old pop phenom is the “first artist to send her first two proper singles straight into the Hot 100’s top 10.” The SoCal native, who wrote “driver’s license” with her pal Dan Nigro, recently told the press that she was obsessed with emotions, and loved her jobs as both actor and musician because they allow her to be so expressive. Paris Paloma has big feelings, and by sharing them with her audience, she makes a big impression. The Brit singer says her songs are inspired by "a need for catharsis." Pop ditties and hollow fun aren't high on her agenda; weightier notions take their place. "Music becomes a facilitator for anything I need to move through," she told us during her DSCVR visit to Vevo's London studio. The Derbyshire native has a powerful voice that can seem both brazen and seductive at the same time, increasing a tune’s emotional clout. Certainly, her breakout track “LABOUR” made that kind of impact on TikTok. Addressing the imbalance of woman living in a patriarchy, it lists a parade of traditional roles while indicting each for stereotyping half the planet. “All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid, nymph then a virgin, nurse then a servant, just an appendage, live to attend him, so that he never lifts a finger 24∕7, baby machine…” The song’s video is even more fierce. Currently getting ready for her first Glastonbury show, we had Paloma in to do both “LABOUR” and “The Warmth” from her pending debut album, ‘Cacophony,’ due August 30. Both the staging and performance are superb.

Ayra Starr fulfills past promises and pushes Afrobeats forward on her spectacular sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 21.’ In many ways - including its age-centric title and lyrical candor - it's an extension of ‘19 & Dangerous,’ the Beninese Nigerian’s star-making 2021 debut. That project played a big part in Vevo naming Starr to our DSCVR Artists To Watch program; her “Rush” performance, in fact, is one of our most popular in recent memory. Nowadays, she’s a wildly successful young twenty-something. You could forgive the newly mint zillenial for reveling in designer clothes as she hangs out with the rich and the hot. Well-earned, of course. But ‘The Year I Turned 21’ is preoccupied with money in a different way. “I’m trying to figure out a way to stay the same,” she rues on “21.” She recently told Apple Music that the track, in which she ticks off the years of her life (“19 I got a big bag”), freed her from writer’s block. “Commas” is poised to be another level up. It’s deeply spiritual, restless, and ambitious. Her faith in God and allergy to “isokuso” will invariably lead to more commas. We believe that the views-counter for this performance will end up with a few commas, too.
