Pour lutter contre la surpopulation carcérale, un haut fonctionnaire propose une idée audacieuse : transformer certains foyers en prisons à domicile. Le principe est simple : confier des détenus triés sur le volet à des couples eux aussi rigoureusement sélectionnés.
Mais suite à une erreur administrative, Jules et Norma Klarsh, un couple sans enfants approchant la cinquantaine, se voient confier non pas un jeune prisonnier inoffensif… mais un criminel redoutable. Très vite, la cohabitation dérape, et dans ce petit village tranquille, il devient difficile de savoir qui est réellement le plus dangereux : le détenu, la famille d’accueil… ou les voisins eux-mêmes.
