Dr. Sebastien Chastin interviews Dr. Alexis Lion (Fédération Luxembourgeoise des Associations de Sport de Santé) about the article “Effect of Elite Sport on Physical Activity Practice in the General Population: A Systematic Review”, published in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health. The research found no evidence to support an immediate or lagged effect of hosting elite sport events, elite sport success, or elite sport role modeling in increasing physical activity or sport participation in either young or adult populations. No effect was observed either locally or at a large-scale level. Although sport is still a pertinent vehicle to encourage populations to be active, the promotion of elite sport alone is not likely to increase the physical activity at the population level. https://doi.org/10.1123/jpah.2022-0123
