Lucky Daye - Fade Away (Studio Performance)

Nothing's gonna stop Lucky Daye - he’s been smashing through walls his whole life. David Debrandon Brown grew up in a New Orleans home that banned secular music, but on the sly, he still managed to have fun cranking up The Gap Band. When Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city and his family moved to Texas, Lucky began dreaming of a music career, and got some positive feedback during a stint in ATL. A road trip to Los Angeles connected the proud Libra with producer D Mile, and in an instance of cosmic luck, the duo refined their take on groove music and developed a singular plan: “Let’s get funky, let’s get musical and let’s get unorthodox lyrically.” The result? Four Grammy noms for ‘Painted.’ Not bad for a debut album, which includes “Call,” a samba-infused plea for romantic communication, and “Fade Away,” which is part of ‘The Photograph’ soundtrack. The Beaches - Edge of the Earth. An exclusive performance for Vevo.

Ever watch a billowing cloud morph from a face to a piece of popcorn to an elephant? That’s what it’s like listening to The Beaches, the guitar-driven indie rock crew who hail from Toronto but sound like they could’ve elbowed The Strokes backstage at a mid-aughts Webster Hall show or shared a Troubadour bill with The GoGo’s in 1980. The Miller sisters comprise half the band - Jordan on lead vocals and bass, Kylie on guitar. As starry-eyed teens, the sibs had a group with drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel. When guitarist Leandra Earl joined in 2013, they officially dubbed themselves The Beaches. In 2017, indie rock fans welcomed the punchy verve of debut album ‘Late Show,’ which made it clear that these Canadians liked to stomp it up. Last year’s ‘Blame My Ex’ keeps all the angular guitar riffs and synth candy in place, but adds pop craft. The quasi title track “Blame Brett” pulls off the rare feat of being both a lovable TikTok soundbite and a full-fledged alt radio hit. If you’re in the crowd at any of The Beaches two-dozen-plus shows this spring in ‘24, you might catch Jordan crooning like Robert Smith in their patented “Boys Don’t Cry” cover. “Edge of the Earth” is a setlist staple, too. Easy to see why.

A flurry of butterflies visited our DSCVR stage in Brooklyn, NY. They all belonged to Colombian rising star Ela Taubert, who moved through her performance as flawlessly as the winged creatures fly. La ciudad costera de La Serena en Chile no necesariamente es conocida por su escena de música urbana, pero FloyyMenor llegó a cambiar esto rápidamente. La carrera del reggaetonero de 18 años comenzó apenas en el 2023 con “Pa’ la Europa”, canción que le trajo al chileno interés internacional. Pero, nadie pudo predecir el éxito masivo de “GATA ONLY”. Lanzada a principios del 2024, la colaboración con Cris Mj causó un bullicio y arrasó con las listas de reproducción hasta llegar llegar al #1 en la lista Hot Latin Songs de Billboard. La colaboración permaneció 13 semanas consecutivas en la lista, haciendo de Floyy el primer artista chileno en llevarse el reconocimiento desde 1999. No es para menos, ya que su fusión de ritmos de trap, reggaetón y música tropical atraen los cuerpos a la pista de baile, y sus letras son poderosas, con mucha indirecta hacia la fiesta, el sexo y la vida callejera. El flow de la futura estrella de reggaetón es hipnótico y su presentación tiene un estilazo inigualable. The coastal city of La Serena, Chile isn’t necessarily known for its música urbana scene, but FloyyMenor will change that very quickly. The music on Lorde's 'Melodrama' reflects the wealth of emotions the New Zealand native has experienced of late, and they’re rendered with the kind of poise we’ve come to expect from the pop superstar. Her voice, the melodies, the arrangements she’s chosen to help landscape her feelings - this critically-acclaimed second album is particularly fetching because the 20-year-old singer trusts her idiosyncrasies to fuel her eloquence. “Let’s let things come out of the woodwork,” she coos on “Homemade Dynamite.” That’s what makes the six performances of ‘VEVO X Lorde’ so powerful as well. All her best ideas naturally seep to the surface. Filmed at Electric Lady Sound Studios in New York’s West Village, the mid-August session found Lorde moving through key songs from ‘Melodrama,’ providing each with the proper temperament for the occasion. The set list features “The Louvre,” “Sober,” “Writer In The Dark,” “Supercut,” “Homemade Dynamite,” and “Hard Feelings”/ “Loveless” – she chose to spotlight some of the album’s most vivid moments. Whether backed by a small ensemble, playing the piano alone, or singing a cappella with a squad of vocalists and a beatbox, she brings invention and intensity to the performances. The soft addition of strings and brass adds to the show’s intimacy, and the drama that she’s built a rep on is central to every moment. Jack Antonoff of Bleachers, who produced and co-wrote parts of ‘Melodrama,’ arrives on “Writer In The Dark” to support his pal as well.
