“When I grew up, criminals were my heroes.” With an intro line that could be applied to the Henry Hill coming-of-age montage in ‘Goodfellas,’ Macklemore summarizes “HEROES.” Over an extremely boom extremely bap DJ Premier beat, the Seattle rhymer breaks down his complicated relationship with the MCs he looked up to as a kid, and the culture that allured him. Kicks from Eastbay, drinking Mad Dog, loitering at 7-Eleven, and yes, even a De Niro reference, the detailed litany of relatable touchstones goes on. It’s also yet another sly track from the dude who’s famous for hiding acerbic cultural criticisms behind frivolous references and fun beats. Macklemore has promised that his ‘BEN’ album (arriving Friday) is a moodier project than previous, in part because of his well-publicized 2020 relapse. But “HEROES” is a sign that the “Thrift Shop” rapper is gonna be looking inward from some very unique perspectives, that wry grin never far from his face.

Charlotte Plank - Ellen | Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2025

“I was born in Australia with my parents being in the rave scene there,” Charlotte Plank recently recounted on our DSCVR Artists To Watch 2025 set. “My uncle was a DJ. So I was brought up in a lot of ravey, acid house music.” The Brit producer/singer’s musical journey is a cool spin on the familiar story of parents as primary tastemakers for their kids. It’s just that not a lot of moms and dads are blasting 808 State at the crib. Unsurprisingly, Plank herself turned into one cool cat, first becoming a disciple of Rudimental and Amy Winehouse, before immersing herself in the UK dance scene, before eventually plying her own craft. During the pandemic she built beats on Logic. Early releases like “Lost Boys” and “Hate Me” showed her skillful hand at the flurrying sounds of drum and bass. Plank also casts a wide net, as best demonstrated on her debut album, 2023’s ‘InHer World,’ which grabs pieces of indie rock riffs, jazz, blues, and hyperpop. We particularly love that she considers herself “a writer, before anything else.” In the midst of the genre’s mad energy, Charlotte’s voice has a way of cutting through the fray. It’s probably because she’s the rare EDM artist who has something to say with lyrics. Surely, the Plank parents are already cheering on their girl. After all, she’s checked off one dream by collaborating with Rudimental on “Dancing is Healing.” These performances of “Ellen” and “Stargirl,” which transformed our studio into the club, will only increase their pride.

keshi - Glimpse of Us. An exclusive live performance for Vevo.

The last time we worked with keshi was in 2020 for our DSCVR At Home series, which brought live performances to the masses during lockdown. Back then, supporting his hushed ballad “More,” we hinted that an album was in the works. Next week it finally arrives. The versatile singer/rapper/producer asserts that ‘Gabriel’ is about his “life at the moment; it’s very honest and candid.” That latter word certainly describes “GET IT,” a boldly bumpin’ and lyrically brash track that announces keshi is yet again pushing the boundaries of his craft. As he goes through his checklist - “Got my money (Check) / Lady (Check) / Rollie (Check) / Mary (Check)” - it’s easy to see this is an artist whose confidence is sky high. He brought that authority to our studio, too, reeling in the swag a bit and adding a pinch of earnestness. “ANGOSTURA” dives even deeper into his R&B bag. Then there’s “LIMBO,” which proves he’s willing to throw an acoustic guitar over his shoulder and belt falsettos. Closing things out with a cover of Joji’s heartbreaking hit “Glimpse of Us” was a cool hat tip to the current strength of Asian-American artists shaping the alt-pop space. Mr. Versatile strikes again.

Myles Smith - Stargazing. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.

Thanks to this new generation of songwriters, folk-pop is having a big revival. Myles Smith figures to be a key part of the story. The UK singer’s breakout track “Stargazing” has been spinning alongside the Noah Kahans, Zach Bryans, and Kacey Musgraves of the world since it dropped in May. And why not? It’s got all the right ingredients: a stomp-clap foundation, anthemic “oohs,” and idealistic romance. No surprise this Coldplay and Labyrinth fan spent formative years playing pubs around Luton. It’s quite easy to picture him leading a bar crowd with his guitar if you’ve waded through his debut EP, ‘You Promised a Lifetime.’ Check the buoyant “My Home” and “Solo” if you want a stronger grasp on his Mumford-tinged lane. That project was, in part, the result of friends encouraging the sociology major to care less about making the most of his university degree and more about making music. When he doubled down on posting covers online, the response only multiplied. He once recalled Jared Leto posting one of his covers while he was in a Budapest bath house. When we chatted with him on his DSCVR shoot day, he wisely insisted that his craft isn’t tied to any specific genre. Instead, “it’s tied to a feeling,” he explained. “Group therapy, some of my fans call it.” Myles has and will spend a lot of 2024 on his Slightly Less Lonely Global Tour. Tons of the shows have already sold out. The world is really responding to that feeling, as he described it, and we were only happy to help capture it.

Ever watch a billowing cloud morph from a face to a piece of popcorn to an elephant? That’s what it’s like listening to The Beaches, the guitar-driven indie rock crew who hail from Toronto but sound like they could’ve elbowed The Strokes backstage at a mid-aughts Webster Hall show or shared a Troubadour bill with The GoGo’s in 1980. When guitarist Leandra Earl joined in 2013, they officially dubbed themselves The Beaches. In 2017, indie rock fans welcomed the punchy verve of debut album ‘Late Show,’ which made it clear that these Canadians liked to stomp it up. Last year’s ‘Blame My Ex’ keeps all the angular guitar riffs and synth candy in place, but adds pop craft. The quasi title track “Blame Brett” pulls off the rare feat of being both a lovable TikTok soundbite and a full-fledged alt radio hit. If you’re in the crowd at any of The Beaches two-dozen-plus shows this spring in ‘24, you might catch Jordan crooning like Robert Smith in their patented “Boys Don’t Cry” cover. “Edge of the Earth” is a setlist staple, too. Easy to see why.

Available on Deluxe 2-LP, 2-CD, and Digital — as well as a Super Deluxe Edition collector’s box set — Fallen (20th Anniversary Edition) offers newly remastered audio, including the album’s singles “My Immortal,” “Going Under,” “Everybody’s Fool,” and “Bring Me To Life.” The expanded set also includes a trove of bonus material – ten tracks in all – comprising previously-unreleased demos and live recordings plus a selection of rare B-sides. Alongside reimagined artwork, all physical formats will include previously-unseen photos from the era, plus a handwritten foreword by Amy Lee, who oversaw all aspects of the reissue. The Deluxe vinyl, CD and digital configurations are out now.

Available exclusively at Evanescence.com is the Super Deluxe Box Set, arriving February, 2024. Housed in a collectible shadow box-style package (inspired by Amy’s songwriting journal cover art), this limited edition includes all of the above-mentioned music as part of a 2-LP set (featuring a Black & Silver blend vinyl) plus a bonus cassette of previously unreleased demos and voice notes which is exclusive to this box set. Adding additional insight into the album is an expansive book which features new track-by-track notes from Lee, while a zoetropic turntable slipmat, rare photo prints, and enamel pin set round out the collection.
