Surviving Mars is a forthcoming city builder game from Paradox and Haememont games which is scheduled for release in Mid March. The game takes the city planning and building concept and applies it to early robotic pioneers through first colonists, expansion and stirs in some unnatural anomalies to make the late game interesting.
I was fortunate enough to get an early look at this last week and It's looking good right now. Thanks to Paradox for hosting me.

OpenTTD is a business simulation game in which players try to earn money via transporting passengers and freight by road, rail, water and air. It is an open-source remake and expansion of the 1995 Chris Sawyer video game Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

OpenTTD duplicates most features of Transport Tycoon Deluxe and has many additions, including a range of map sizes, support for many languages, custom (user-made) artificial intelligence (AI), downloadable customisations, ports for several widely used operating systems, and a more user-friendly interface. OpenTTD also supports local area network (LAN) and Internet multiplayer, co-operative and competitive, for up to 255 players.

OpenTTD is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.0 and is under ongoing development. According to a study of the 61,154 open-source projects on SourceForge in the period between 1999 and 2005, OpenTTD ranked 8th most active open-source project to receive patches and contributions. In 2003 or 2004, development moved to their own server. Since 2018, the project uses GitHub for its source repository and bug tracker.

Dorfromantik is a relaxing building strategy and puzzle game in which you place tiles to create ever-growing, idyllic village landscapes. With Dorfromantik, you can immerse yourself in a quiet, peaceful world at any time and take a break from everyday life. At the same time, Dorfromantik offers a challenge for those who are looking for one: To beat the highscore, you need to carefully plan and strategically place your tiles.

In Dorfromantik you start with a stack of procedurally generated tiles. One after the other, you draw the top tile of the stack, place it on one available slot and rotate for the best fit. Thereby groups and combinations of landscapes are formed, such as forests, villages or water bodies, and you are rewarded with points depending on how well the tile fits.

On some tiles you will also encounter special objects that give you a quest: For example, the windmill wants to border 6 grain fields, the locomotive wants to be connected to 10 tracks or the deer wants to inhabit a forest with at least 50 trees. Fulfill these quests to get more tiles to continue the expansion of your landscape. The game ends when the tile stack is used up.

As you expand the landscape, you can advance into new, colorful biomes and discover pre-placed game objects that give you long-term tasks. Through these tasks you can unlock new tiles, new biomes and new quests.

The Caesar series established itself as the de facto ancient Roman city-builder. Beginning with Caesar 1 where it was almost more like a Roman themed SimCity to becoming a unique walker-based puzzle city-building game in Caesar 3, once they found a formula that worked, they brought it through the ancient world through Egypt, Greece, and China, but when the Impressions Games came to a close a gap was left in the market. The mantle was picked up by Tilted Mill with their attempt to continue but also transform the series with Caesar 4, to mixed reception, and whenever a series stumbles competitors rise up to claim the crown. CivCity: Rome was an amalgamation of Stronghold and Civilization, which was unique but also had its problems. Flanking from another side was Haemimont Games with a series of their own. Glory of the Roman Empire, Imperium Romanum, and finally Grand Ages: Rome all in quick succession. Many consider Grand Ages: Rome to be at least the best 3D Roman city-builder and today I will come to see for myself as I begin to conquer this alternative take on an old favourite.
