It takes a lot of reps to feel comfortable saying whatever you want into a microphone. Cloudy June is a prime example of that fact. “Music was one of the first things I discovered about the world,” says the Berlin native. Born and raised in the music-loving city’s Schöneberg district, Claudia Verdecia spent her childhood checking off all the right boxes. Early guitar lessons. Penning her first song before the age of 10. Falling into the SoundCloud rabbit hole. Some wild ones too, the most illustrative being her role as the frontwoman of a death metal band. In 2020, she struck out on her own with “High Waist To Hell,” a frisky synth track with dark mascara edges. The following few years have found this Rihanna and Judas Priest fan honing in her coquettish lyrics while expanding her genre sandbox on “Masterpiece” and “FU In My Head.” The arrival of her debut album, ‘Crazy Woman,’ seemed like the perfect opportunity to pounce on this 21st century pop princess (IYKYK). So we invited her to our London DSCVR studio to be a part of the 2025 Artists To Watch class. The music on Lorde's 'Melodrama' reflects the wealth of emotions the New Zealand native has experienced of late, and they’re rendered with the kind of poise we’ve come to expect from the pop superstar. Her voice, the melodies, the arrangements she’s chosen to help landscape her feelings - this critically-acclaimed second album is particularly fetching because the 20-year-old singer trusts her idiosyncrasies to fuel her eloquence. “Let’s let things come out of the woodwork,” she coos on “Homemade Dynamite.” That’s what makes the six performances of ‘VEVO X Lorde’ so powerful as well. The soft addition of strings and brass adds to the show’s intimacy, and the drama that she’s built a rep on is central to every moment. Un día en otoño, una colonia de mariposas vino a visitar nuestra tarima de DSCVR en Brooklyn, NY. Todas le pertenecían a la estrella naciente colombiana, Ela Taubert, quien fluyó a través del escenario tan fácil como las palomillas vuelan en el cielo. La criatura es su símbolo, su emoji favorito; la representación de la evolución. No empece a sus humildes comienzos como letrista juvenil, Ela irrumpió en la música latina con una fuerza indomable. Su primer EP, ‘¿Cómo Pasó’, alcanzó el #12 en la lista Billboard Latin Pop Airplay y le ganó el espacio en una de las carteleras más codiciadas de Bogotá: ser telonera del espectáculo de KAROL G, Mañana Será Bonito. La conexión de Ela con sus fans es íntima. A flurry of butterflies visited our DSCVR stage in Brooklyn, NY. They all belonged to Colombian rising star Ela Taubert, who moved through her performance as flawlessly as the winged creatures fly. It’s her symbol, her favorite emoji – a sign of transformation and evolution. Belying her humble beginnings as a teenage songwriter, Ela broke onto the scene with bombast. Her first EP, ‘¿Cómo Pasó?,’ reached #12 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart and netted her the coveted opening slot on the Bogotá stop of KAROL G’s Mañana Será Bonito stadium tour. Ela’s connection with her fans is intimate. She’s created a refuge, a safe space where her fans can process their emotions and shed their skin without judgment. “I’m focused on being able to share from the most honest part of my heart all the stories I’ve experienced and been inspired by,” she told Remezcla earlier this year. Influenced by pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, the singer’s gut-wrenching lyrics portray the ins and outs of teenage life: falling in love, heartbreak, and most importantly empowerment in the face of adversity. Accolades have kept coming. The biggest one being her nomination for Best New Artist at the 2024 Latin GRAMMYs.
