Nimko Ali leads a global campaign to end the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation. Richard Ratcliffe campaigns for the release of his wife from an Iranian prison. Three different activists talk about their campaigns and what they think it takes to be an activist in the 21st century.

If you look at activism around the world there seems to be an amazing sort of flowering of different approaches being taken to tackle these deep-seated problems. What does it take to bring about change in today’s world?

Nimko Ali’s activism grew from her personal experience as a survivor of female genital mutilation or FGM.

Richard Ratcliffe became an activist in 2016 when his wife Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was accused of plotting to overthrow the Iranian government.

The most important thing is to keep that hope that the world can be different, the world should be different and, you know, by God will I make it.

UKRAINE-KRIEG: Putin dreht auf - Derbe Drohung mit globalen Konflikt | WELT News

Der Ukraine-Konflikt spitzt sich weiter zu. Russlands Präsident Wladimir Putin droht unverhohlen mit einer Eskalation und dem möglichen Einsatz von Atomwaffen. In einer Ansprache bezeichnete er den Krieg in der Ukraine als einen vom Westen provozierten Konflikt mit globaler Dimension. Zudem kündigte er an, künftig militärische Einrichtungen in Ländern angreifen zu können, die die Ukraine mit weitreichenden Waffen beliefern.

Aktuell testete Russland eine neue experimentelle Mittelstreckenrakete, die auch mit nuklearen Sprengköpfen bestückt werden könnte. Diese wurde bei einem Angriff auf Dnipro eingesetzt. Moskau begründet solche Maßnahmen als Reaktion auf Angriffe mit westlichen Raketen wie den US-amerikanischen ATACMS und britischen Storm-Shadow-Marschflugkörpern, die von der Ukraine auf russisches Territorium abgefeuert wurden.

In den USA wird eine Anpassung der Atomwaffendoktrin erwogen, während die Vereinten Nationen die Eskalation mit Besorgnis verfolgen. Experten wie Professor Carlo Masala gehen jedoch davon aus, dass Putin zumindest bis zur möglichen Wiederwahl Donald Trumps zurückhaltend bleibt, um Verhandlungen nicht zu gefährden. Dennoch sorgt die neue russische Atomdoktrin, die die Schwelle für Nuklearwaffeneinsätze senkt, international für Alarmstimmung.

In Kiew herrscht erhöhte Wachsamkeit, die Parlamentsarbeit wurde aus Sicherheitsgründen ausgesetzt. Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj fordert die internationale Gemeinschaft zu entschlossener Reaktion auf die "kranken Ambitionen" Russlands auf.

Die militärische Lage bleibt angespannt. Russland intensiviert seine Angriffe, um bis Januar strategische Geländegewinne zu sichern. Die internationale Gemeinschaft steht vor der Herausforderung, weitere Eskalationen zu verhindern und gleichzeitig die Ukraine zu unterstützen.

Nobody wants blurry photos or pictures that are too dark. In this video I'll show you how my camera is set up for low light and high iso situations for shooting in gyms (track, soccer, gymnastics, volleyball etc). Freeze fast moving action with a high shutter speed and keep the aperture or f-stop as low as possible. I also go over the white balance and Auto Focus Tracking mode that I use. At the end of the video I show a few sample action shots that I took at the last NCAA Division 1 game and some live footage through my Gopro hero 4 silver edition.

TIP: My ISO is high because the higher end Professional cameras can handle it better. If you have a consumer grade camera I would suggest using iso 2000 or less and using fixed focal length lens like a 1.4 that way you can keep your shutter speed around 1/640 or 1/800 of a second. You might get a few more photos out of focus but that is a good alternative and cheaper.

Basic settings I use:
Shutter speed 1/1000
Aperture: F2.8
ISO: 4000
