Evora is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Portugal, rich with architectural styles and historic monuments, narrow winding lanes and picturesque squares. In the historic center stands the ancient Roman Temple of Évora (Temple of Diana). After the Romans, the city was held by the Visigoths and the Moors, until the Portuguese reestablished their power in the 12th century. The gothic Cathedral of Évora was established in the 12th century and gradually expanded over the next two centuries. The Igreja de São Francisco, built in Gothic and Baroque architecture, is famous with its Chapel of Bones with bones of thousands of people to illustrate the transitory nature of life. Almendres Cromlech is a prehistoric monument of megaliths, nearby Evora, from around 6000 BCE.
The Historic Center of Evora is on the UNESCO WORLD Heritage List.

MATOSINHOS, PORTUGAL - Some say that Portugal has the best seafood in the world and today we’re going to find out why. With pristine cold water Atlantic ocean spanning the west and south coasts, Portugal is a seafood paradise. Today we’re eating our way through Matosinhos, a port and fishing town just outside of Porto.

Mercado Municipal de Matosinhos - The local market is one of the best places to begin your seafood tour. The market is clean and organized and home to extremely fresh seafood of the day. You can also get all sorts of vegetables and fruits while you’re at it.

Restaurante Tito 2 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/2jbGqUBNa8tYFLyS7) - Andre arranged for us to go to one of his favorite seafood restaurants in Matosinhos. Here you can choose the fish you want, and they will grill it, or prepare just the way you want it. The Rodovalho Grelhado - Grilled Turbot was fantastic, as was the Lulas - Grilled Squid, and the Pargo Grelhado - Grilled Porgi.

Restaurante Os Lusíadas (https://maps.app.goo.gl/W8DTiynoWQH7aSzn8) - But the highlight of this Portugal seafood tour was Restaurante Os Lusíadas, an upper scale seafood restaurant that serves the absolute best and freshest seafood you can imagine. It was indeed among the best quality seafood I’ve had in my life. We had Amêijoas à Bolhão Pato - Clams Portuguese Style, a huge seafood cocktail platter for 4, Arroz de lavagante - Lobster Rice, and Robalo ao sal - Sea Bass Salt Flambée!

If you love seafood, Matosinhos is a place you have to visit when you’re in Portugal!
