Towa Bird knows that angst manifests in many forms. From the romantic, to the economic, to the existential, the rising indie rocker with Filipino and English roots speaks to all forms of anxieties with a precision that only comes with personal experience and a sharp pen. It’s all there on her debut album, the cheekily titled ‘American Hero,’ which Rolling Stone recently named one of the 100 best from 2024. Its tracks range in areas of concern. “Sorry Sorry” sticks out the stiff arm to an unfortunate friend who wants to be more than that; the jangly “B.I.L.L.S.” rails at paying rent and wider pitfalls of capitalism. Fan-fave “Drain Me!,” meanwhile, lets the endorphins flow a bit. Longtime Towa fans know that the guitar is her first musical ally, having been inspired by the Kinks and Jimi Hendrix as a kid. Raised in Hong Kong, Towa would cut her teeth playing street festivals and dive bars around the massive city. Eventually she started posting covers to YouTube, which extended her reach more than a bit. “Having guitar-centered music… it’s always been my focus,” she explained to us. Tyler, The Creator and Willow Smith have given Towa daps for her celebration of queer experiences and reimagination of what energetic rock music can look like in the LGBTQ+ space. No surprise, more like-minded artists have joined the fan club. This fall, Towa joined Billie Eilish on tour for a handful of dates. “Hehe im nerv,” she wrote on Insta - vulnerable in her worry yet ready for the challenge as always. La ciudad costera de La Serena en Chile no necesariamente es conocida por su escena de música urbana, pero FloyyMenor llegó a cambiar esto rápidamente. La historia de Omar Courtz es reflejo del espíritu de resiliencia y la cultura del reggaetón y el joseo en Carolina, Puerto Rico. A los 10 años, el cantante escribió su primer álbum. Un tiempo después, comenzó a trabajar en una tienda de ropa en el municipio, atendiendo a estrellas del género como Farruko, Ozuna y Anuel AA. En el 2017, Omar lanzó a través de SoundCloud “Volvemos Otra Vez”, que se convirtió en un éxito local, le llevó a grabar el EP ‘Invierno’ y a un contrato con la disquera de Pitbull, Mr. 305. Omar dice que hace música de manera intuitiva, mezclando sonidos de trap, R&B, hip hop y reggaetón para crear su sonido insignia. “Siempre estoy buscando nuevos sonidos, introduciendo nuevos géneros [a mi música]”, dice Courtz en entrevista con Rolling Stone. “Creo que soy muy bueno combinando géneros para inventarme algo diferente”. Bad Bunny se cuenta como fan. Daddy Yankee y el legendario dúo Wisin y Yandel son colaboradores, y pronto tendremos un álbum del reggaetonero boricua. Omar Courtz’s story is a reflection of the hustler spirit and the reggaeton culture of Carolina, Puerto Rico. At 10 years old, the singer wrote songs his first album. A short time later, he began working at a streetwear shop in the municipality, recommending clothing and sneakers to Farruko, Ozuna and Anuel AA. In 2017, he released his first track through SoundCloud, “Volvemos Otra Vez,” which turned into a local hit. After recording and releasing his ‘Invierno’ EP, Pitbull came calling and he was signed to the superstar’s Mr.305 label. Now the rest of the story is being written. Courtz says that he makes music intuitively, taking from hip-hop, reggaeton, R&B and trap. “I’m always looking for new sounds, introducing new genres,” he said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I think that’s what I’ve been good at: combining genres to come up with something different.” Bad Bunny is a big fan. Daddy Yankee and the legendary duo Wisin y Yandel are frequent collaborators, and we’ll soon have a full album from the boricua. Omar’s talent knows no bounds, and we got to see his prowess live on Vevo’s ctrl stage. Don’t miss his performances of “Una Noti” and “Paola” filmed in our Brooklyn studio.

Lagos native Damini Ogulu was only in grammar school when he came across the FruityLoops software that was popular for tracking beats on home computers. He's been creating music ever since, absorbing the diaspora from dancehall to DMX, and using the name Burna Boy, has really lit a flame on the global dance scene. The music biz was in his blood; his grandfather was Fela Kuti's first manager. But he did the hard work it takes to make a true dent. From 2012's "Like To Party" grooves to the kinetics of this year's "On The Low," he's crafted some of the strongest beats around. To celebrate the arrival of his 'African Giant' album, he came to deliver performances of "Collatoral Damage" and "Anybody."
